Kid's Menu Complete, and Another Project We Hope You'll Check Out!

When we tell people there's a kid menu in the book, they always give us this look...and we have to explain it's not a bad joke about recipes using mutton... Totally understandable, given the number of egregious puns in the book (and it could still happen - ha!). At least they don't ask us if we use real kids....
The kids' recipes are constructed more simply, so that Cultists: The Next Degeneration can participate in the Joy of Eldritch Cooking, for those of you who have spawned. They are, of course, still fine entries if you happen to like simple comfort foods and desserts, too.
As it happens, while we were working on this part of the book, one of our awesome backers approached us about her own project: ONLY FREAKS TURN THINGS INTO BONES. This is a children's book, and it's about dealing with the difficult subject of bullying. We love this project the approach, and its mission. The art looks great, and we'd love to see this book get made. Give it a look?

Alright, detailed update time!
While things have proceeded a little slower than we initially wanted, so far - so good. Throughout the project, our focus has been on quality. We want the book that lands in your hands (or perceptual apparatus for digital backers) to be the best we can deliver. Were we aggressive with the initial timeline estimate? Yes. We knew that. We said that. But without that - we knew the timeline could extend farther than we wanted. So, we've kept the pressure on ourselves. Mostly, this has worked well.
Here's where we are:
We are looking at June for text completion, Julyish for art. This puts the manuscript in a publisher's hands at that point, and we see what they tell us for publication dates. The initial quote from our primary intended publisher is "a maximum of seven weeks". Provided all goes well there, that's a book to you at the quality we intended, and which we are proud of, in early Fall. Possibly sooner.
Have we had some challenges? A few. They're clerical. No impact on the book, so we won't bore you. Could there be others? Sure - until publication actually happens and turns out at least as well as hoped, the voices will not let us rest.
Are we worried? Not at all. Things are going GREAT! We're just anxious that timelines not slip too far, and are at least as excited as you to see this come to fruition. Have you seen the finished pages? Those are just the ones we're showing for the moment. There's a slew more in review...and we can no longer even pick a favorite. They are turning out wonderfully.
What's next?
*Complete the backer and collaborator recipes. There are only three more of these. Our two backers have been wonderfully patient (we need to complete the planned recipes to see how and where to fit in their submissions) and our two Collaborators have also been awesome! Miguel is all set, and Helen is up next. If you need to whet your whistle - Miguel Fliguer's 'Cooking with Lovecraft' is available now on Amazon and his awesome submission "Albino Penguin Au Vin Blanc" is *finished*. We will have a sneak peek for you shortly!

* Receive/approve proof
* Open BackerKit Pledge Manager for changes/additions
* Distribute all pledge levels when printing is complete - we will advise you as soon as we have a solid estimate on that timeline. Additional book requests are not expected to change the timeline for initial print of original pledges (but that won't be 100% in our control). If there is a desire to have the digital as soon as it is done, we *may* decouple that from the physical book distribution - give us your thoughts there?

So, there you have it. This is where we are; and we will transparently update you with any changes, remain responsive to questions, and - above all - strive to make this as great as we can make it. Quality and satisfaction trump logistics for a unique project and product like this in our minds, and we hope that you agree. We want you to be thrilled.

Alright, alright - we have a tasty morsel for you...and more to come at a better pace now. But, before we take the cover off this dish - some general updates.
Writing proceeds apace, and that pace should pick up shortly. This is mostly "translation". We're interested in your feedback about the balance we are striking for the physical books between usability as a cookbook, and the artbook/spellbook aesthetic. So you know, the latter is ascendant in my mind; so as I translate you get something you almost have to figure out a bit - like an ancient grimoire. They didn't exactly come with instructions... Culinary acolytes may find this...challenging, as the expectation is usually a very exact, "do this, use this much of that". Not so with this tome (ok, this also lets us fit things on the page for longer recipes - and makes the art part of the fun). It's almost like it wants you to risk your soul experimenting with its inscrutable pages...
Don't fear, though - the pdf will have the plain text versions, if you opted for that. You'll also be able to download it as a separate purchase later - and, we expect to have a just-text, recipe-only offering for those who purchased solely the physical book, available online. Haven't got that fully figured out yet, but we'll get there.
Or, you could just mumble to yourself over the pages...and take your chances. Muhahahahahaha! *ahem*
